I Forge Iron

Anvil identification

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to understand what type of anvil I have.

The weight is about 244lbs. The base of the anvil is about 11.5" x 12". You can see the measurements in the pictures.

striking face - 19" length, 4.75" width

overall length- 30.5"

height - 12"

the only identifying mark I could find was a W on the bottom left foot under the horn

is this a forged or cast iron? What kind of iron is it? What type of price tag would it have (not looking to sell, but would like to know what I have)?

Looks like a Peter Wright, very good anvils. What's the rebound on it, and what was used to grind the face?

Flap disc...I think it was 80 grit.

The ring and rebound were both really good. No dead spots.

A peter Wright...wow...I picked this up at a really good price. i wasn't sure what it was because the only marking I could make out was that W
