Game 2, the "Iron Fjord"

Sorry gang, I've been a little busy, Falki needed to get some dental work done, extracted a molar and a couple other related things so I was preoccupied when I should've been GMing the game.

GM hat on.

The lodge lets everybody sleep late, 0700 breakfast is well under way.  You hump your luggage and rearranged gear to the dock with the help of dock rats. One of the marina hands is just finishing up provisioning the Dahlia B. and is directed to give you a quick tour of the boat. Dahlia B. is a charter boat built on a converted 62' 2 cabin trawler. She is a comfortable over night cruiser for parties up to 20 people, captain and 3 crew, 6 private double cabins. On board head and galley, modern electronics and communications systems. Satellite link only when stationary.

Dahlia B. is normally used for glacier cruises and party charters. However seeing as the Montague Island lodge is this party's destination Dahlia B. will haul supplies as well as passengers to the lodge. She isn't crowded nor loaded near capacity. The party's gear is stowed in water tight deck lockers, how to access it. Emergency equipment is explained and they are given a drill on how to dawn PFD, activate ELT, life rings, lines, etc. Questions are answered and the boat departs on time at 0900.

The weather is typical Prince William Sound fjord headlands, overcast raining lightly, steady 5mph breeze off the ice fields that surround you. The Dahlia B. not having a planing hull the trip will run about 7 hrs. While things are running smoothly Aaron, the mate, will point out sights, answer questions, tell tall tales. While not gourmet, a hot lunch is served before you leave Passage Canal while it's still smooth sailing.

Once you round Perry Island and enter the Sound proper things roughen up. The wind has a longer reach so the swell and chop are rougher and higher. No surprises sea sickness patches are offered. Anyone wanting to go out on the rear deck WILL wear PFD and carry an ELT. (Emergency Location Transmitter) You're encouraged to wear both unless in your bunk or the shower. The Personal Flotation Device is a modern version, a moderate weather jacket in orange with a flasher beacon on the breast and a pocket for the ELT. They're good deck wear, you see the mate and deck hand wearing them full time.

As predicted the seas pick up as the Dahlia B. rounds Perry Island. The wind rises to 15mph with gusts exceeding 25mph. The swell is running a normal 6' and the chop is capping. There is considerable spray coming over the bow and the deck is a place to wear your rain gear over the float jacket. When one of you looks to be headed out on deck the deck hand Pete points out a box hanging by the rear hatch. It contains lanyards to keep you from losing your glasses AND goggles that will fit over glasses. You might want to keep the spray out of your eyes, it's cold and blowing hard.

The captain and crew are unconcerned with the weather it's normal for the sound. Everything is fine so long as the coffee is hot and Navy standard. Captain Harden maintains watch at the helm with a heavy ceramic cup apparently grafted to his arm, Pete regularly topping it off and he never spills a drop. He's an old salt in his element. As the Dahlia B. swings Southwards into the sound proper she's heading into a quartering wind and it starts singing in what rigging there is.

"Make sure you keep the rear hatch dogged we don't want water in the cabin." Harden shouts down the ladder from the bridge cabin over the whistle of the wind and pounding of the sea on the hull. "Aaron Take a look at the locals (meaning local weather reports) and see if we have a smooth path to Hanning Bay. I'd rather not thread behind Knight Island."

Taking the #2 helm position Aaron opens a window on the computer and starts examining the screens. "Knight Passage looks like smooth sailing, no surprise. There looks to be better seas in the lee of Montague but that's too little too late. Either we take Knight Passage and pay the chief's toll or run across and sneak up behind Montague."

"That's what it looked like to me too, oh well so much for the passenger's comfort. We'll run across to the lee of Naked Island and catch what lee we can from Montague. Try to keep them from puking all over the place will you?" Harden said.

"Thanks skipper, you're gonna owe me for this one. The chief's toll is what, a case of beer, $20.00?"

"It's the principle. Be about it."

"Aye aye Captain." Aaron replied rolling his eyes. Stubborn old salt. He said silently to himself as he swung out of the seat and headed down to the lower cabin to see to the party. He enters the main cabin and looks over the slightly greening faces. "It's going to blow while we're crossing to Montague, nothing special but it's going to get rough. Everybody have their patch on? There are barf bags if you can't make the head." Aaron shows the party where several were hanging and pointed out several other locations. "You might safely assume this kind of seas is normal out here by the availability of barf bags." He opens a cabinet and takes several packages out, "You'll want to keep something in your stomachs but not much and mild, we have more crackers than you'd think. Help yourselves and give a shout if you need anything, Pete and I have duties to attend to."

With that you are left in the main cabin as the wind and seas build. The sky darkens as the wind increases to gale force, the seas begin slamming into the boat and coming over the starboard rails. Aaron makes a quick appearance and says over the roar of the wind and hammering of the sea, "It's going to get pretty rough for a while. Just stay seated here, secure your carry bags and use the barf bags. Don't move around if you don't absolutely have to. We have about an hour of this before we get to the lee of Naked Island and it breaks the weather. Don't worry, The Dahlia B. is designed to take hurricanes, the worst part about this is its not fun for the lubbers. Heck, any of us!" Aaron gives them a grin and makes the rounds of the cabin latching doors and drawers and swinging bar clamps over the appliances that weren't built in and generally securing the cabin for rough seas.

The Dahlia B. swings to  port putting the gale on her stern and takes a heading with the wind. The ride smooths out but is still far from smooth. There is lightning sometimes in chains, thunder cracking across the boat. If it weren't so rough the party would note the thunder rattling the windows. The time lapse between flashes of lightning and deafening claps of thunder shortens to nothing. The engine note is changing with the boat's attitude, Captain Harden is playing her with the sea for all it's worth.

Being hammered by a following sea is brutally rough and everybody, crew included is looking green. ON one pass through the cabin Pete tosses several packages of barf bags to the party and stuffs a couple in a pocket himself. He stands at the stern port and watches waves slamming into the stern and occasionally looking to top the rail. After a minute he climbs the ladder to the bridge cabin.

Pete or Aaron checks the party every few minutes to make sure nobody is in serious distress or been injured as some fixtures are being shaken loose. More often that not Aaron appears from the engine room companionway and hatch but the engine is running smoothly and responding to throttle changes smartly.

After more than 2 hours of steadily worsening weather there is a sudden slackening, followed shortly by a near continuous assault by lightning and thunder. Clinton spots storm ravaged rocks and trees above the hammering surf off the starboard stern and he points it out. The lightning revealed sight only lasts a minute before it's swallowed by the storm. The engine note rises as the sea calms a bit. "I think we're making a run for it, the engine's really turning!" Max shouts out.

Maybe 10 minutes later the cabin lights flicker a few times in time with the lightning then the engine begins running rough. Aaron sticks his head out of the engine room hatch and yells something at Pete who dives into a locker and runs through the hatch with a tool box. In a few minutes the engine smooths out and begins running strongly again. Pete exits the hatch and runs up the ladder to the bridge cabin. Shortly he almost dives back down the ladder and back into the engine room. The cabin lights flicker back on steady to their previous intensity.

Pete and Aaron exit the engine room hatch and dog it behind them. Pete heads to the rear deck hatch and Aaron heads up the bridge ladder. After looking out all the rear and side ports Pete heads to the bridge deck but is slammed against a cabinet when the boat tilts almost on it's side. Dahlia B. rights herself immediately and the now steady rumble of her twin diesels growls defiance to the storm she pushes on into the tempest lit by almost continuous lightning and the deafening crash of thunder.

The seas become rougher tossing the Dahlia B side to side and suddenly everybody is slammed forward and upwards to a loud metallic bang. The Dahlia B. begins shuddering violently to the engines screams then there's a loud explosion from below decks and the engines go quiet. Aaron drops down the ladder and shouts at the party. "Close up your float jackets! Stand by the rear hatch and hold on. We've lost the engines, we should be headed into Little Iron Fjord, the wind and seas will carry us in but we're adrift. We need to be ready when we ground on the rocks. Pete is readying the inflatable but that's last ditch.

The wind swings Dahlia B. broadside and out the port side ports a rocky shoreline is revealed by lightning flashes. A scream of metal grinding on rocks roars from below then the boat raises clear on a wave to be slammed into another. Everyone is thrown into the port bulk head. The ports on the starboard side are blown in by the next wave showering everybody with glass and pieces of wreckage. Captain Harden is shouting, "OFF, OFF, everybody OFF! Abandon NOW, get to shore I'm activating the ELT and Sat beacon! Get OFF!"

The Dahlia B is literally coming apart under their feet as the waves repeatedly lift then slam her into the rocks. Aaron undogs the rear hatch but has to kick it open as the frame is warping. He shoves someone out the hatch and shoves an orange pack in his arms. "Throw this as far as you can at shore, open locker two and start throwing packs at shore!" He shoves each party member out the rear hatch repeating the directions. "When I say the word go over the shore ward side and swim for shore like your life depends on it!" Dogging the hatch open Aaron dives for the locker, looks at the remaining contents for a split second throws a pack as hard as he can at shore and before he can grab another a wave shoves the shrieking Dahlia B. onto her side and she starts to roll over. "GO GO GO!! NOW NOW NOW!!" Aaron takes the last two steps he ever will on Dahlia B and dives for shore like Satan himself was on his heels.

Aaron comes to while being carried across the rocks towards a near vertical shelf of rock away from the crashing storm surf. They lay him down above the wave line and start to minister to him. "NO! We have to get off the beach, we're not above high tide. We have maybe an hour and a half to get another 10' up! Somebody find a trail, the rest of you collect as many of the emergency packs as you can find. I'll be able to walk as soon as I catch my breath."

At Aaron's pronouncement of his condition Ben and Max look at each other for a moment then Ben points at Aaron's left leg. Not only is it bent in an unusual place and direction there is bone poking through his pants. Aaron looks down and says, "CRAP! Guess I'm going to need a hand getting up above high tide. Let's not gawk lets get a move on it we don't have time!"

So ends day 2. Frostig Den Arbitus.

"Well you really screwed the pooch, didn't you Giligan?"

"Darius, you want to break a trail, wile I see to Arron?"

"Max, Ben, police up the packs and keep an eye out for something to use as a spint, other wise we have to bind his leg to the other"

Things I need to know, is how bad is the bleeding, and is any of the rest of the crew in evidence? Obviusly Aaron has pulse, airway and BP.

Anything in sight that will suffice as a splint? Maybe one of theise inflatable life jackets?

rolled a 5.

Max had that horrible feeling when the Boat was getting tossed around. Taking the advise he gladly wears his life jacket over his rain gear and with a little chuckle wishes airlines would recommend wearing a parachute. Max sits there trying to sip on a coffee here and there and tries not to get too queezy. as the weather gets worse he watches the crew dashing back and forth at one point Pete stops and grabs some of the barf bags and tosses some at us on the table. taking the hint Max grabs a couple and puts them in his pocket and opens one at the ready just in case. he is constantly shuddering at the thunder and really is getting worried that this just wont end. noting what Clinton sees off the starboard stern and hearing the engines he makes a comment to the others. when the lights flicker Max starts to really fear that this trip is going to go bad and starts running through scenarios in his head.

Then all heck breaks loose and we get thrown around with a crash and explosion from the engine room.  Aaron starts shouting some orders and we follow them. Max practically runs into the box with the goggles by the rear hatch and puts a pair on so he'll be able to see better in the spray when they have to go out. Then theres a huge crash with debris flying and the captain is shouting for us all to get off and swim to shore. being unsteady and hard to move about being thrown about by the boat Arron grabs Max, shoves him out the hatch and shoves an orange pack in his arms, saying to throw it towards shore, then to grab more from locker two and toss them over. Max throws the pack towards the shore and barely makes it to the second locker and tosses about two more before he is just getting too unsteady and decides he better get himself off the boat after hearing Aaron shouting to go.

Max does a quick look off the edge for what looks like it it wont be rocky and jumps as far off feet first into the water. he swims with all he has the short distance towards the shore not even realizing that the boat is now rolling over. seeing one of the orange packs he tries to grab it to carry in with him.

soon he makes it on the shore with a few others. Ben and I see Aaron in trouble and rush out to bring him in. he comes to as we are carrying him over the rocks away from the surf. He gives orders and then Ben and I notice that his leg is broken bad, and Ben lets Aaron know, probably not feeling it from the adrenaline. Clinton comes over and assesses the break and sais he will deal with Aaron, and to find something for a splint and to grab what emergency packs we can find. Max shouts "wheres the rest of the crew?" not seeing anyone out in the water or around the rocks he gets to work looking for some of the packs and a piece of drift wood or something for a splint. Max quickly grabs any packs he finds and what else he finds and runs over to Clinton and Aaron, sets the packs down and what else he found and asks if he can help. he remembers about the ELT on his vest and activates it, and turns on the flashing beacon light so maybe any other crew can see it.  Max asks Aaron whats in the packs, then thinks a second and pulls out a wet bandanna from his pocket, wrings it out and hands it to Clinton who is working with Aarons leg, and says  "your going to need help moving him."

Rolled a 4

Ben went into autopilot during the crash. He doesn't remember much of it, only brief flashes. Aaron yelling, the sudden crash, jumpinbg into the icy water, swimming towards shore and grabbing one fo the orange pack things. He starts to really regain himself when he notices what happened to Aarons leg. Clinton says he will handle it so Ben runs around trying to get as many of the packs as he can. He also is looking for the others to hlep them out. He turns on his ELT and begins helping as much as he can. He also ddrags all the supplies they have so far above the high tide mark.

(Sorry for the delay, rolled a 5)

Brandon looked over the Dahlia B and felt a small pang of homesickness. It had been a long time since he had been home. He missed being on the boats to help with the lobster dumping on dump day. (The entire town practically shuts down so everyone can help out)

The Dahlia looked to be a proud ship with all of her own quirks and the ship hands who knew and loved them.

Feeling completely comfortable with the boat Brandon put on all the equipment grabbed a pair of goggles and strapped his knife to his leg. Then stepped out on deck to ride the waves for a bit. Food was served and Brandon enjoyed a small bite to warm himself up. Had a glass of coffee. And helped himself to a couple packages of crackers. All that done he settled into his armor book again.

As the weather grew worse reading became a thing of the past and Brandon became more alert. As the ship bucked and rode the waves he began listening to the difference in the engine sounds.

As items started to knock loose firm the deck Brandon circulated and helped everyone adjust what safety gear they had and handed out whatever he could find.

The ship let out with a huge lurch and Brandon was tossed from his feet. At that point he knew what was happening next. He rushed over to a mounted first aid kit and filled a barf bag with everything he could fit. Then he used his paracord bracelet and tied the bag to his pfd.

When the emergency bags were passed out his training kicked into overdrive and he grabbed and tossed. A jump from the boat into seas like this was risky for even the trained professionals. He was far from professional but he had experience in the surf from basic airline bail out training. It always ducked.  With a final check of his straps to make sure everything was secure  he leaped far and hard off the boat feet first. In mid air he crossed his arms, plugged his nose and drew in a deep breath. Then fought to keep it as the frigid water smashed into him.

Once in the water he tried his to support his random tumble through surf and debris while on his way to shore.

It took a great deal of energy to pick himself up but when he finally did he started to help out. Seeing Aaron down was a blow but there was too much to do to worry about it now. He was being treated already.

Brandon checked to see if he still had the medical supplies to toss over to them. Then was asked to break a trail and went off in search of a safe trail

With Clinton and Max doing 1st. aid on Aaron, Bruno and Ben start scouting for packs, splint or shelter materials and a way up the stone cliff to get them off the boulder beach. Bruno is pretty banged up from the swim through the storm surf pounding the boulder bed that makes up the shore line here. He rolled a 4.

Ben rolled a 3 but isn't too beaten up, mostly scrapes, cuts and a bad bruise on his back where he was dragged feet first across a boulder that hiked his PFD and shirt under his arms.  He did manage to hold onto the pack he'd grabbed, it is buoyant.

Clinton's left leg has a long scrape and a few cuts from being dragged across a boulder. He's moving careful, slow and favoring it. He doesn't think he's actually injured just pretty roughed up, about like getting pitched of a rank horse on a stony trail.

Max's left knee is swollen and he has some friction burns but his pants are heavier material and he'd put his rain pants on so he was protected from sharp rocks. He's favoring his knee but is still reasonably mobile. Unfortunately trying to swim wearing heavy clothing made him have to choose between his EDC and the pack he'd grabbed as he dove overboard or drowning. He's standing here so you know his choice.

In the 15 minutes since the Dahlia B.was broken on the rocks you haven't seen: Brandon, Captain Harden or Pete.

After getting Aaron's pants leg cut open you see the break is open along his shin and isn't nearly as bad as it looked. The bleeding is strong but not major. It's an open break but mostly torn skin, the bones you saw were both ends of the break after being separated and twisted in the surf.  He has several twisted and broken fingers on his right hand as well as various scrapes and cuts. He grimaces when Clinton and Max straighten his leg and sighs when they get it under traction. A usable couple pieces of galley cabinet had come ashore and Bruno brought it over.

One of the orange emergency packs, marked with the red cross, contains mid level first aid supplies, Max and Clinton are able to apply Betadine, butter fly bandages and pad the splint with gauze. Fortunately Aaron being a, Marine Force Recon Vet. has had experiences like this and is offering suggestions and joking. Unfortunately all they have are Ace bandages, Aaron says, "You're going to have to check the pulse in my toes regularly, Ace bandages have probably caused more amputations than artillery. Now THAT was waterboarding!"

Bruno sets off up the shore looking for anything useful, it's so heavily beaten by surf at high tide there isn't much drift or flotsam that isn't mulched.

There is a stream that's opened up a largish fisher in the rock face that looks passable. The tide is still coming in, the wind has slowed but the waves are still running high hard and fast.

Once we get Aaron of the beach, we can see to some kind off padding (vetrap is similar to ace wraps, an Clinten has wrapped plenty of horses feet, pasturens and cannons, so he knows the danger). Best that can be done for the broken and dislocated fingers is to pull them back into a simbilance of normality wile the cold, time and shock keep the pain and swelling under control. A stick, rock, role of gauss or an ace baddage inside his fist, and wrapped is prabbalu all we can do for multiple fingers. If Motrin or some other NSID is avalable a double dose now will help later.

Once Aaron is packaged, it's time to scout the floatsam, looking for Brandon and the crew, other usable gear (a certain rifle hard case would be real welcome, as would a slicker and bed roll, lol). Not taking long or holding out much hope under the conditions. We need to get Aaron off the beach and to higher ground.

Ben's arms are banged up but not enough to be more than painful, he has been scouting and scavenging reasonably well.

Brandon's legs suffered scrapes and minor cuts, he's limping but reasonably in tact. Unfortunately you had to cut loose of the pack you'd tied to you, it was dragging you into the boulders on the back flow. You're still a little dazed but getting yourself together well.

Everybody who abandoned the Dahlia B feet first took injuries to their legs fortunately no serious injuries besides Aaron's. The sea bottom here is composed of detached blocks running as large as houses down to small cars. Riding the surf in on this shore is like being in a series of water falls and undertows. Almost as much water is flowing back out under and through the boulders as over it.

The air temperature is running low 40's and the real surprise you and most folk from the lower 48 discover is the sea water in the Sound runs in the high 60's in fall. Hypothermia isn't as much concern as logic says IF you can get out of the wind and rain.

Dahlia B. has been ground to metal mulch, occasional spars, rails or debris is rolled above the water and dragged back down. There is probably some of her hull still in tact you can hear it, muffled by the water, sounding like a boiler being dragged down a gravel road. There are bits of wood and fiberglass in the surf, some is washing ashore but not staying long. Even getting close to the water is perilous. Even where the boulders are filled in the most under the cliff face small boulders run basketball size with more foot catching voids than good places to step.

The tide is coming in, rising visibly there is no doubt you MUST get off the shore. Bruno is waving and pointing at a gap maybe 50 yards away. He has several bright orange emergency packs in his hands, waving a pair of international orange bags was the real attention getter.

Clinton has taken charge of caring for Aaron and with help wrapped him in one of the space blankets in the 1st. aid emergency pack. Max has attached himself to Clinton for the moment as seeming to have the best idea of what to do.

Looks like time to get Aaron off the beach.

Not so concerned with hypothermia with the wool long handles, but it is far from pleaseant.

so it's either fire mans carry or firm and chair, how rough is the "beach" and how large is the gap? We need to move with some purpose as getting caught in that draw with the surf and rising tide doesn't appeal to me.

Seeing as the pack was buoyant and his EDC wasn't Max chose the pack over sinking. Well my knee is swollen and sore but I'm still getting around. Max asks Clinton if we could each get under one of Aaron's shoulders and work together to get him up the pass off the " beach. "

I could carry a few of the Orange packs in my free arm maybe.

As soon as we get above the tide line we should try to set up a signal that can be seen from sea and air. Won't do any good down here where it'll get washed away. Can we carry the rest of the contents of the Orange first aid pack and set it up as a flag and maybe one of the beacons. Also should put up markers pointing our direction even if it's arrows set up with rocks or cairns every so far so if our signal is seen they know where we went.

How long do these flashing beacons last?

First thing first lets get off these rocks.

Aaron can support himself on his right leg with help. One on each side to keep him out of holes and he's mobile, he'd be able to get around on smooth ground with a crutch but not in a boulder field.

So far you've been able to collect 9 emergency packs and were able to carry a limited amount of EDC. Brandon's paracord made it as did Clinton's boot laces though trying to swim wearing boots was nearly fatal for everybody. (You guys would NOT believe your saving and damage rolls, I actually had to fudge them so someone was hurt and then bumps and scrapes. You guys are TOO lucky)

Once he got your attention Bruno went up the little stream cut with the emergency packs in hand.

Night is falling, fortunately the sun goes down at nearly 50* so sunsets last quite a while but if you don't get a move on it you'll be trying to do this in the dark with waves crashing on you.

Aaron tells everybody but is eyeing Ben, "Just grab stuff and go, you can make signals later, this isn't the time. NO, don't throw ANYTHING away, everything in the emergency packs is useful, even the packs themselves will carry 1 1/2 gallons of water and they're insulated." He gasps as he starts to get up and moves his broken leg. "We can come looking for more AFTER we're off the shore, this position won't be survivable in another hour and it'll be getting darned uncomfortable very soon! Let's GO!"

While you guys are picking up what you've gathered and start moving you see Bruno come out of the stream cut and start moving along the water line, stopping and fishing packs out of the waves using a long forked stick. When he retrieves one he turns and throws it as far up the stream cut as he can.

(P.S. from Frosty. Instead of repeating back what I said you did, tell me what you are going to do. I'm adding those things to the story line for color and to keep it moving. The story is yours tell me what your character does or tries. I'll tell you if it works or you survive.)

Brandon realizes that survival in thwe conditions could become an issue and was defiantly going to become a team issue. Only problem was he has no idea where anyone else is.

Knowing that the tide is coming in and dark is starting to hit he moves away from the water and once he's a safe distance from the tidal line (150 meters or so) he starts to look for signs of any of the others. He looks for a stout branch to use as a staff and to stay on the safe side keeps the water to his right as he moves parallel to the shore.

Brandon finds another break in the shore cliff and climbs to the wooded bench above. Facing the ocean he starts moving to his right as the bench narrows and cliffs cut it off shortly. Lightning is falling off but still frequent enough to light large features up to a couple hundred yards. As he moves along the cliff edge he spots the party ahead and starts making his way to hook back up. The emergency packs Brandon salvaged supply him with 1st. aid materials and he's able to treat his wounds.

(Sounds like the coasties are getting restless, Jerry!)

getting Aaron of the beach with as little grinding of his broken Tibia ends is priority one.

"Flashing beacons on the cliff top will make better signals than any thing we can scrounge up down here, Max. Let's get Aaron and our selves off this beach"said wile slinging on an emergency pack...

I Agree Clinton, Aaron is ok on his one leg so lets just help him along.  lets get up out of this quickly but safely and easy, My knee probably wont handle too much abuse at the moment. Max grabs a couple packs and they get Aaron up to start off the beach following Brunos lead, and not trying to put too much strain on his left knee.

Ben, give some shouts for the other guys along the way and listen to hear for replies. I know the surf is loud but it's worth a shot. maybe the other guys made it off and are just further away.

Ben does a quick visual sweep of the beach as well as yelling to see if anyone comes. He then offers to help with aaron or grabs some packs to carry them off the beach

He follows Clinton and Max off the beach and above high tide.

After spotting the party and carefully winding his way over to them Brandon takes a full assessment of the situation. Most of the party, with the exception of Aaron, has minor injuries that a little bit of R&R mixed with some TLC would fix no problem. Aaron’s injuries on the other hand, while partially treated, would require a much better more urgent solution. If not helped soon he was potentially going to slip into shock as soon as the adrenaline and numbness wore off.

Brandon fished through his first aid kit for a Mylar space blanket that he could wrap around Aaron to keep him warm. Other than that he had to keep him engaged until they had shelter.

“Aaron, you are more familiar with this area than the rest of us so I need some information: What did the captain say was the name of this island? What can we expect for wildlife on the island? Are there any kinds of vegetation that we need to watch out for either as a potential threat or as a higher source of  nutritional value?” The questions were two-fold; A) they kept Aaron concentrated away from his injuries, and B ) they provided important information to the survivors on what to expect coming up.

Brandon Looks over to Ben “Are you able to start looking for a suitable place to build a shelter. Look for an evergreen with a large base and a partial hollow under it or a large size deadfall that we can support and make a temporary shelter. Stay within easy shouting distance of the rest of us, preferably within eye sight, so out to about 100 meters. 50 if it gets too dense.”

“Clinton, let’s find a place where we can help Aaron to sit and build a small fire. We can move again later but with night falling we need a source of heat and warmth.”

Brandon takes any of the packs he can find and searches all of them for Mylar space blankets and hands them out to everyone. “These will help to retain body heat. It may not feel too cold out here but with everyone being wet the chill can set in fast and it is dangerous. Take off any large over jackets that are soaked through. Once we get a fire going we will hang them to dry.”

“Max, are you able to check all of the kits to see what they have for food. We need to take an inventory of everything we have so we know how long we have to forage. First priority is making it through the night, Tomorrow when it is light out we will look at setting up better signals and a more reliable shelter, maybe find a way to get some tools made.”

With that done Brandon starts gathering any dry twigs he can find and shaving them into tinder with his Gerber. Then using the striker on his bracelet attempts to start a small fire.

"Here Brandon." Max grabs out one of the barf bags he had stuffed in his pocket on the boat, unwraps it and hands it to Brandon.  "They are wax impregnated paper so it might help getting the fire going quicker. "

Ill start checking the packs and get an inventory of what we have.

Ben starts looking around and finds a big evergreen. "Guys over here" he calls. The tree is about 1 and a half feet in diameter, with the boughs spreading out quite a ways providing shelter. It's not perfect, but it will due temporarily. So Frostig, whats in the packs?
