ausfire Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Here's another try to answer: Yes, it's a pity all those previously posted photos are no longer available to us. I think I posted a pic of some scorpions a long time ago. So what's your next project, Das? I'm currently working on making a Joey kangaroo to complement the buck kangaroo and the female which I have already made. I want the complete family, as I am having a junk sculpture exhibition here in March next year. I'm going to have a 'critter' corner too for the crawlies; scorpions, spiders, grasshoppers, mantises, ants etc. and a big ol' mosquito which I have already done. Might have to pinch your centipede idea, if that's OK. Quote
Daswulf Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I'd love to see pictures of your exhibition if you could get some, it would be really inspiring. And please do pinch the centipede idea, I'd love to see your take on it. As far as my next projects I have a wall mounted guitar to make for my boss at work. Also a dog for one of our ins. Writers here at work. I'm in the process of making more roses as they seem to be popular and everyone seems to want one for their wife or girlfriend. I have many other ideas floating around in my head to build. After the scorpion I was thinking of making a large spider. Too many ideas too little time with a full time job to eat away all of my time and energy before I can even start any projects in the evenings. Quote
ausfire Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Roses are always popular, but I find they take so much time to make. The spider would be an interesting project. Please post a pic when you've done it. I have the makings for one sitting on the bench right now, but haven't got round to welding it up yet. I have taken to arranging a bunch of boxes for likely looking parts ... bird beaks, lizard tails, insect legs, scorpion claws etc. As I find a junk piece that looks like something it goes into the right box. Saves trawling through huge piles of 'stuff' that always seems to get tangled. Anyway, keep the pics coming. I enjoy your work. Quote
Daswulf Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I will post as I make. Yup the roses are kicking my butt now lol. I love your organizing method. I'll have to borrow that You as well with the pictures. Love seeing people's work like yours. Sometimes I see something and get discouraged from even attempting it. Then I think about how everyone's interpretation is different and I figure, why not make my own. Everything is original to the maker and I love bringing it out and also seeing others work. Quote
ausfire Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Here's the middle sized kangaroo. I'm working on the joey now. I'll post a pic of all three when it's done. Quote
Daswulf Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Ausfire, that's awesome. That's a great representation and the use of parts is really well done. I honestly hope I can get that good some day. Can't wait to see them all together! I really want to get biggerand better like that but I figure it will just take time or a stroke of genious. So I'm hoping for luck. One question to you and other awesome artists. Do you make a frame for your larger work or just go at it? Quote

With most of the bigger things I start from the ground up. For this kangaroo though, I made it in four parts - the head (which swivels on a bearing), the tail, the legs and lower body, and the chest (welded from the inside). The parts were then assembled and the front paws were added last. Quote
