DC_CycleWorks
Hey guys, I'm new here and just starting to to learn about forging, I just got my first anvil, which I've had my eyes on way before I even knew what forging was. It was my great grandfathers and has sat in my parents barn untouched for all of my life. So after looking around on here and other google searches I was able to wire brush the side and see Trenton logo on the side, but it's upside down, does anyone know if that was common? The left foot says z157 which I'm guessing is the weight, I also put it on a scale to confirm that. The right foot is a little harder to read but looks like it says a49437. The second 4 is almost non existent so that is basically a guess it could be another number, don't know if that will affect the date, but could someone please let me know what year this is? I've attached a pic Incase someone else can make out the number better than I can. Thanks for any help
swedefiddle
Can someone date my Trenton? Why? Is she hard to live with? Send her my way, I will straighten her out!!! Neil

Frozenforge
If the s/n is A4937 1899, A49437 would be 1904. Not sure what you mean by "difficult to live with". The upside down stampings on anvils is not uncommon, they were all done byhand back then, nobody's perfect!
