Anthony San Miguel
I saw a small, old, neat looking ball bearing press this weekend. It was in good shape and had a few dies with it. I didn't give it much thought at the time so unfortunately I didn't take pictures. Now I'm just wondering if a small ball bearing press has any use in a blacksmith shop. Does anybody here use one for anything other than pressing bearings?
Charlotte
Are you talking about an arbor press? Drawing or pic would be useful. Arbor presses are used to press bearings,
Anthony San Miguel
No, it kind of looked like an arbor press but the arbor had top and bottom attachments specifically for pressing or removing bearings. Various diameter cupping dies and things like that. I wish I had taken a picture.
Charlotte
check the size. If it looks strong enough, and deep enough to handle the sizes you want to work with then why not acquire it at a reasonable price? Attachments can be removed and replaced with something that is useful to a new owner. I helped out a friend in an out board motor repair shop. We pressed and removed a lot of bearings over the years. As we got older the Arbor press was replaced with a manual hydraulic press for the same job.
