MarkDobson
alright so here is the forge i picked up along with the post vise i just posted, came with the hand crank blower which we thought was seized up but it turns out it just had a bunch of gunk in the blower that i didnt see. there is a small rust hole by one of the legs and its going to need a new grate to keep the coal in. Im not really sure if this is cast iron or some sort of thick sheet metal but the fire pot is made of two pieces, there is the outside portion that forms the sides and then an inner portion that the pipes connect to. it also has a thin peice of sheetmetal that looks like it used to be a grate.O and ignore the photobombing cat lol
Nick O
the forge pan is cast iron and that thin piece of sheet metal is a grate
matto
i think it is stamped steel, the legs bolt on. most cast pans the legs screw in on the bottom. the other thing is in the second pic the upper lip is thin and flat. most cast forges the lip is round. it looks like champions version of the stamped steel buffalo forge. i see alit more of the buffalo than the champion.if you need to fix the plate in the bottom a 18" farm disc works well. SReynolds
That is a super (small) forge. I use mine quite a bit. Just as shown. No fire cement or anything.
matto
in the small stamped steel rivit forges you don't need to clay. if you need a deeper pot just use some fire bricks.
MarkDobson
well i finally fired mine up the other day, just used some firewood i had and it got more than hot enough. im impressed with how much air that little blower puts out. matto
mark it would be good to put a shield on it like s reynolds forge. helps protect the blower and helps block a little wind.
MarkDobson
thats def on the to do list for it, my hand was getting a little toasty working that blower. i already have some sheet metal set aside for it, just gotta get the time to make it. SReynolds
my students destroy work-pieces in that little forge. I tell them they will, but they don't believe me as to them, a small fire equates to little heat.
Pancho07
Mr dobson, wondered if you might be able to tell me the thickness of the impeller blades of that blower? I have an identical blade with no fan and am building a new one.
MarkDobson
the fan on mine is made out of ~16 gauge sheet metal. looks stamped and then the blades were twisted
