Bill in Oregon
It doesn't look like the gear case ever had a gasket on it, but I am thinking of adding one just to help keep the gear oil from dripping on my washtub forge bench. Any thoughts?
Charlotte
you might try one of the paper thin gaskets. Would using a thicker one disturb the play in the gear fan set up?
ThomasPowers
I was thinking of that gasket goop stuff myself...
Brokkr
@Bill What kind of blower do you have? I pulled the front from my Champion 400, I'm also thinking "gasket goop"....ah, I see it's a Buffalo. Bill in Oregon
Yes, a Buffalo Climax. I had a Champion No. 40 on my first washtub forge. It was a nicer machine than the Buffalo.Haven't work with the goop before, but it might be a good solution.
swedefiddle
Good Morning Bill,Forget the Goop. They originally had a thick paper gasket, which doesn't survive "Time".Go to your local hardware store, buy bath-tub/shower sealer Silicone (choice of colors to match your wife's nails).K.I.S.S.
