SparseMatrix
Hey y'all how's it going!Good I hope I've been fiddling with metal intermittently for a long time, fell out of it a bit after my dad passed (nearly ten years ago), who was my partner at the forge. Something tugged me back into it, maybe cleaning up the forge and moving it to our new house. In any event, I wish this place had been around back when he was, he would've loved this place as much as I've come to in the few days since I found it. Lots of kindred spirits here. So yeah, thanks for being here. I'm really a bit of an experimentalist and an improvisationalist, but it is good to have a source of information about how to do stuff right, even if (and especially when) there turns out to be a number of such ways. I really don't know much about what I'm doing, its been a real voyage of discovery so far -- so I'll ask for forgiveness in advance for my newbishness. I got some basic metallurgy, a small amount of forging and grinding practice, and from the look of it, a xxxxxxx lot of good luck Thanks for having me, I really appreciate y'all being here. Frosty
Welcome aboard SparseMatrix guy. What do we call you, S&M? It's not required, I can make something up. We love pictures: shop, equipment, tools, projects, pets, home, scenery, most anything suitable for young kids. It's a family site you know.Frosty The Lucky. SparseMatrix
Haha, yeah I just noted that a few of my more, ahem, sailorman-like words had been scrubbed and replaced by 'x's. I'll try to flex my literary musculature a bit and get my point across without raising the ire of the programmatic overlords. I reckon I'll have to if I'm to be understood.I'd complain about that being a bit heavy handed, but as a prior and current operator of such software and similar, I know there isn't much that can be done about how smart it is.Heaven forbid someone should speak their mind forthrightly and with character. Frosty
Forthright with character is a desirable trait so long as your 8 yr old girl can read it without her mother skinning you alive. Most of us have been xxxed out, sometimes it's a typo, sometimes we get too involved and just forget. It only takes a little practice and proof reading. Easy peasy.Welcome to Rome.Frosty The Lucky. That is a wife, daughter, grand-daughter, or great grand-daughter, and a son or grandson. They should and are able to read the site for information and find the site a comfortable place to visit.Playing with words is in the view of this site the same as using the words and is treated accordingly. We have 42,000 sets of eyes looking at the site, NO OVERLORDS, just members. Each is requested to report anything that looks out of place and the admins or mods will look at the issue. You know as a matter of fact, I think I'll just refrain from posting if I'm going to be censored. Y'all have fun with your moderatin'When you joined the site you agreed to the Terms of Service. There are guidelines posted in several areas including one of the first posts in the first section of the site. If you have read any of the site at all you will nave noticed that there are occasionally words that have been X'ed out. The membership also gives warning during a thread when needed about language. It is NOT a secret. It is certainly NOT censorship. It is editing your post by X'ing out the bad words that should not have been written in the first place. NO part of the site guide lines or the TOS discourage, limit, or restrict you from discussing blacksmithing and metalworking. It only insures that the site is and remains a comfortable for all to visit and learn.
Charles R. Stevens
What Glenn (the owner) neglects to mention is when he started this sight it was in collaboration with his sons, all young, or younger. He didn't want his wife thumping him. "No fussin', no cussin', no personal attacks, no politics and no riligion." Glenn and the other moderators give us a lot of leeway, as long as we stay with in some civilized bounds. Just think of it as sitting on his front porch and drinking a cold one among friends and family. If you urinate in the flower boxes, it wont be looked on kindly. ThomasPowers
Hey I recently got moderated for a typo---two letters side by side and my fat old worn out fingers didn't stretch quite enough for the correct one. And I have a bit of history here according to my post counts. Don't take it as a personal attack; just take the lesson to heart and get on with the blacksmithing posts! ( and as I have mentioned before I once was moderated for a statement I had made to my Preacher that Sunday in church!) just think of it as "His ball, his rules" and so either decide to play or decide to leave. Steve Sells
You know as a matter of fact, I think I'll just refrain from posting if I'm going to be censored. Y'all have fun with your moderatin' I was not online when you decided to ignore the ToS that you agreed to follow when you joined about 10 hours ago, but we are self policing, and you got caught. I am sorry if your education was so poor you can not communicate with out those words. After all no one else here is using language like that and if you cant exchange information with out those words, it will be very hard for you to understand most of the posts here. You leaving is easy, learning how to fit in with a new group is the challenge. Perhaps you are correct and running away now is the best thing for you, its your call. Edited July 18, 2015 by Steve Sells
