BOB T
The Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association holds an annual event there the weekend after Mother's Day each year. The event is held in a blacksmith shop that was constructed by the Association adjacent to the original shop. Also there are monthly Hammer-in through the warm months of the year. I've been there many times, and always find something different in the original shop. There is a church just a few blocks down the street and you can walk through the cemetery to see grave markers that were made in the shop when was operational. Dave51B
Copilot.......I don't know whether to thank you or curse you for all these great pics......It seems, I just keep scrolling up and down, up and down......Question, Is there such a thing as, "blacksmith porn" ? Thanks ( I think ) Dave
781
He made cross grave markers. I live 200 miles away in Minnesota and there is one 17 miles north of me. He also had 5 sizes of jigs to make what was recently still marketed as a hula hoe. Most of tools where shop made did fairer work and wooden wheels. The shop showed progression first large bellows in ceiling which was foot operated then got hit and miss engine that ran line shaft that powered blower then electric that was reostat controlled. You can come back to the shop many times and see something you did not see or understand.
Frosty
Yes Dave there IS blacksmith porn and this is a prime example of a peep show. Ric's Viking sword program as seen on Discovery or PBS is hard core blacksmith porn at it's most drool worthy.Frosty The Lucky.

Frosty
I'm not a fan of either game. Really, how do you take a game seriously that uses a prolate spheroid modeled after an inflated pig's bladder and calls it a ball? The other is too violent, not the game the fans. We have Miss Universe too.Don't feel self conscious Ian you guys aren't really so bad. Frosty The Lucky.

markknx
Very nice, thanks for sharing. imagine the tips and tricks this guy must have had. Looks like he stock some items, like pliers, hooks and horse shoes.I have a question about a tool there. There is a set of somewhat scrolled bars on the ground to the right of the anvil, they have a lever coming off the more curled end. Anyone know what they are?Mark
notownkid
I think I'm going to have to hook my laptop up to my 52" LED TV so I can better see the details and immerse myself in the ambience. Thanks for reminding me that I can do the same thing, I've spent about 3 hrs already looking at them over and over. There is a similar shop in CT, Browns Forge that was family owned from the 1880 till about 1940 and the last member working there went to lunch and didn't bother to return. Was closed and forgotten until very late 1990s when they gave it to a local Historical Group, they open it Sundays in the month of Aug for a few hours. not as well preserved as this one but fun to see. My ID Picture here was taken there.
Charles R. Stevens
More than one image of the anvil, so you might want to coppy and repost the image your talking about. If I'm looking at the same tool, it has 3 sides of a box forged on a flat bar, bent with flat side, then the "handle"(?) bends under the open side of the box and is curved some what. 2 laying in right forground? markknx
Yes Charles that would be them one more is laying right in front of the anvil base. looks like that boxed in area would hook something to bend or hold it.Mark
