Lucid
Hello, I picked up my first anvil today. Has no maker marking other than 100. Measurements are in the pic. Have no info about it, maybe someone here can help id it. Looks good, but there are some marks/dents on the face. Felt like 70-80lbs when I lifted it in my truck. BIGGUNDOCTOR
If that is a 100 on the base, it should be 100#.Looks in good shape, now make a base, and get hammering.
Lucid
Picked up a post vise last week. Hoping to start building a charcoal forge this weekend. Cannot wait.
ThomasPowers
How does the ball bearing test results look? Unfortunately measurements are pretty useless to ID by. Does it have any handling holes? Is there an indentation on the bottom and if so what's it's shape? Put it on a bathroom scale and get a real weight.
Lucid
It has no handling holes or any marks stamped on it. Just the raised 100. Biggest size BB I have is prolly 1", would that be too big to test? Scale weight is 94.7. Thanks
ThomasPowers
as I recall 1" is the suggested size for the ball bearing test
Michael Spaulding
1" is what I use, with good results. Just grab a ruler, and drop the BB from 10 inches, and see what % it returns. There isn't exactly a cutoff test, but my peter wrights rebound about 60-80% depending on where you bounce.
Ethan the blacksmith
looks like a Vulcan or fisher. I have the same anvil laying in my shop I just picked up, but same as you, don't know the exact brand...
