ThomasPowers
only generally, smaller and the more pieces that were forge brazed to make the screwbox usually means older---also the old ones use a tenon on the bracket that goes through a mortise in the rear leg probably the most telling sign as screwboxes can move from vise to vise but the hole in the back leg will not! ThomasPowers
first one looks like a columbian made in Cleveland OH, not particularly old for a postvise. The second is an Iron City made in Pittsburgh also not particularly old.
Roger71
I just recently purchased a vice that is missing the thrust washer. Would you have one that you would be willing to sell? I am trying to get it restored so i can use it i would love to have a period washer if i can find on my vice looks to be wrought iron. That washer and the spring is all thats missing. I am going to forge the spring from a piece of an old hare tooth. I just started learning how to become a blacksmith i truly enjoy it and hope to get into it fulltime. Thanks for your time and takecare
