Mmm0513
Hey guys, just signed into this forum. I just started making knives a couple months ago and made this one. I haven't quite gotten the hang of flat grinding, but I was using a 1x30 1/3hp grinder and just ordered the grizzly 2x72 and it should be here middle of the week. It isn't perfect by any means, but for the first try I'm pretty happy. Thanks a lot, Matt
Benton Frisse
Looks good! I'm also about to order the Grizzly!
windancer
My first 2x72 was a Grizzly and oaid for most of my other tools by selling the knives made on it. I also have a KMG variable speed. The Grizzly still gets used every time I am in the shop. Not perfect but also not2 or 3 thousand dollars.Thqt is a fine looking first knife :)Dave

Frosty
Welcome aboard Matt, glad to have you. If you put your general location in the header you might be surprised how many of the IFI gang live withing visiting distance. Nice first knife. Frosty The Lucky. kayakersteve
So how was it heat treated? Looks good though
Mmm0513
Thanks for the feedback guys. How do I add the location in the header? Unfortunately I didn't heat treat it. I didn't know much about it and am just learning about it. I have a lot of reading to do on heat treating unless I just mail them off like ive heard of guys doing. It's AEBL stainless. I'm working on one now that is 1080 carbon.
TheoRockNazz
That 1080 will be the perfect steel to harden at home. You're first knife looks great; let's make this next one look great and perform great. Take a look at the heat treating section here on IFI's classes page http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/143-knife-making-classes/ and you'll see how easy it is to heat treat at home. Of course, there may also be a fellow blacksmith or bladesmith just a drive away, never hurts to put a location.<a data-ipb="nomediaparse" data-cke-saved-href="http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/143-knife-making-classes/%20and%20you" href="http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/143-knife-making-classes/%20and%20you" ll%20see%20how%20easy%20it%20is%20to%20heat%20treat%20at%20home.%20of%20course,%20there%20may%20also%20be%20a%20fellow%20blacksmith%20or%20bladesmith%20just%20a%20drive%20away,%20never%20hurts%20to%20put%20a%20location."="">
