HWooldridge
You can probably have one fabbed from a big piece of steel shafting if necessary. IIRC, a no. 5 is a 125lb hammer so most of the work is in the dovetails. Where are you located? That might help the search.
Jkokocinski
Thanks for gettin back to me. I live in Oxford mass right outside of worcester. I'm a welder/fabricator by trade and could make one but I would love to keep the machine in its original state as much as I can. What grade of steel should I start with if I end up making one myself? I have a few machinest buddies that could cut the slot for me if need be.
Judson Yaggy
Mild steel would be just fine for hobby/light professional usage, something mid carbon like 4140 or 1045 is probably better than OEM, and the shock resistant stuff will work if you want your great great grand kids saying "this is the only piece of the old fart's machine that we have left" What's the story with having just a Fairbanks sow block? I bought a Fairbanks E out of an abandoned "Wooster" factory about 7 years ago. Has a good sow block but there were spare parts there that we didn't have the money for at the time...
