ceas65
here's the new girl, i think she may be lying about her age ( * definitely not new ) i can't make out any of the markings on her, but she looks hard ridden and put away wet. She's got a broken toe , rough flat & horn , and some genius ripped a scar on her heel. All that being said .... she's my first , and we all know the "first's" are always special..... i'm a newbie ...i'm just excited i have one to learn on ... now to get the forge set up and working
ThomasPowers
Looks quite usable to me; maybe a mousehole or any of the other 200+ old english makers. As the feet were welded on, it's not unusual to have one that gets knocked off. I have a PW missing a toe too. Try the flour trick on the side to see if you can make out anything---and Git to Work! dntfxr
Nice score looks like a fine anvil! I noticed the blue handled hammer too, if it is that nice soft rubbery handle like the one I got the other day, it can rub one heck of a blister. Ask me how I know! :)
ceas65
dntfxr, thanks for the tip bro , wanted a wood handle but i couldn't beat the price on this one .... may break faster than i planned to be replaced with wood ... curly maple sounds fine , just noticed the pretty lil babe has a horizontal hardy hole on the heel end ... would that help anyone ID this old girl
Frosty
Nice score, she's a perfectly serviceable anvil, just put it to work. Square holes in the waist are handling holes used to hold the anvil say to forge it. It's a pretty common feature and if it's an English anvil it's most probably a forged anvil. Frosty The Lucky. ThomasPowers
It's a mutant variation of the stuff some folks call rain and claim that both fall from the sky---who do they think they are fooling! (we have less than 1/4" precip for the year so far down here and .01 inch up where my shop is.)
