jimd ma
Just got this anvil, and I love it!! The rebound is incredible the face is reasonably flat and I couldn't beat the price! The only marking I can see( haven't wire brushed it yet) is on the foot under the horn and it is 174806. I'm guessing serial number?? It weighs 128# measures 24" long, 10.5 high and 4" across the face. Was wondering if anyone might have an idea who the maker might be and the age? Thank you all in advance! Oh yea and a B1 or 81 just under the face.
John McPherson
Not enough definition to make out letters, but it appears that there is some sort of script in an arch in the second picture. That and the shape screams Hay-Budden to me.
Judson Yaggy
Yup, Hay Budden, later model.
ThomasPowers
turn it over if the base has an "hourglass" shaped indentation it's pretty specific to HB's
jimd ma
Yes it does have the hourglass indentation in the bottom. Thank you very much!!
Grymm
Looks like an HB, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that a farrier's anvil?
Judson Yaggy
I don't see indications of it being a farriers anvil.
Frozenforge
Looks Hay Budden to me. If it is s/n puts its birthdate during 1910. Looks good, put it to use!
Grymm
The only reason I asked, Judson, is the shape of the horn
clinton
Hay Buds have that nice big horn, the farriers anvil will have a clip on the side of the table area
otisdog
You could actually order a "swell horn" HB....
