greensngravy
I have an old broad axe I was sharpening and found there are some cracks forming parallel to the edge near where it starts to get thin. What is the best way to repair these cracks? Welding? Grounding down past the cracks? Any help would be appreciated. Scott
ThomasPowers
Forge weld on a new edge if you plan to use it. Ignore them if it's just a display piece.
HWooldridge
You might be creating them if using a motor driven grinder. High speed grinding can generate enough heat stress to cause this in high carbon.
greensngravy
Yep, that must be the culprit! using a high-speed grinder. So...I won't do that again on my other broadaxes! I may try the forge welding when I get the guts...
