twistedforever
Hey all, This is my first time in this forum and hope to make it a constant place to come to. I have been out of the blacksmithing scene for quite some time now and am finally getting back into the game. I will try to forge something soon (probably a bottle opener) To get back in the feel of things. Look forward to learning more and becoming more informed in the field of smithing! Frosty
Welcome aboard twisted guy, glad to have you. Thomas was referring to putting your general location in the header. YOu'll be surprised at how many IFI guys live within visiting distance, maybe better than that we'll stop bugging you about it. <grin> Did you smith professionally, semi-pro, hobby, etc.? I've been at it for a few decades mostly as a hobby but occasionally taking a commission or selling things. I do some tools but mostly decorative items. Mostly I like playing with fire and hitting things with hammers. It's a Gooooood thing. <grin> Frosty The Lucky.
twistedforever
I've only done it as a hobby, I haven't sold anything at any shows or anything like that yet. I am hoping to make some extra money on the side though...eventually :)
ThomasPowers
I used to make a couple of hundred dollars each year selling stuff through the local ABANA affiliate club booth at the state fair. The deal was that if you demonstrated at least one day you could have stuff for sale there the entire fair for a very modest commission (about 1/2 that of a typical consignment shop or gallery out here). Then I moved another 3 hours away and lost most of my vacation days as well and so no longer could do that. To my great surprise the little country fair my church held in the new location turned out to be almost the same net for 1 short day selling---and I sold a lot of stuff that didn't sell at the fair over the years!
