Jim Coke
Greetings All, Next weekend we have a meeting at a friend's shop and the theme for Iron In The Hat is something scary for Halloween. What do other smiths need but the basic essentials..? For sure a place to hang your shop apron with a built in bottle opener.. Had fun making it... DSW
I don't know looks pretty good to me. Now some of the stuff I made when I started out was pretty scary... In fact much of it still is!

Black Frog
Jim, This looks great! What stock did you use to make the wings? And what what tooling to get that shape?
Jim Coke
Greetings Frog, The base is 3/4 to start and all formed on the anvil.. ( Trenton ) .. The opener end is a simple thick fish tail folded over to pop tops... The wings are 18g from an old shelf unit. They are cut out using schneckers ( cutting chisels) and the depressions and veins with repousse and chase chisels on a soft wood block.. Using the treadle hammer of course. I did not like the mouth I formed .. I wanted to put teeth in it BUTTT ..I just made a bug instead..
