Bmt1234
So I am planning to build a forge. I want to line the whole thing with fire clay but I have not been able to find any where I live (central nc). I am going to try a couple of brick suppliers next but if they don't have any what else could I use to line my forge.

Bmt1234
The clay aroud here is brick red so I don't think it would be good for fire clay. And I have heard bad things about kitty litter as fire clay.
ThomasPowers
Most of the clay in the bottom of the forge doesn't see much heat. Instead of guessing--- *try it!* you can always replace it later. Also try mixing it with wood ashes and a bit of sand if you want. Why don't you just pay the money and order fire clay?
Bmt1234
I was having trouble finding an online source. Do you know of any good places to buy it.

ThomasPowers
Shoot there is a fire clay mine in central NC! Why does it have to be on the internet? "Lee Brick is an intermittent fire clay mine located in Sanford, North Carolina. It has 12 employees and is operated by Lee Brick & Tile Company Incorporated" Might ask if they have any at the Rutland Fire Clay Company, 3001 Northwest Boulevard Gastonia, NC 28052 Kendric Brick and Tile is listed in the Thomas Register on-line as a suppier of fire clay Monroe, NC 28110 This took me about 30 seconds googling "fire clay"
