WmHorus
I am thinking about putting scrap stainless chips in with leftover cable damascus bits and 108x steel bits to see if I can get something interesting out of it. Anyone who has more experience at this sort of thing have any thoughts on this mixure?
Steve Sells
do the math on that you have and the ammounts you plan to use. See what the total melt will be by weight; and look at standard alloy specs, if you make adjustments to the composition for there ya may have something usable. ThomasPowers
And don't forget that in a melt what you put in may NOT be what comes out unless you can control heat and atmosphere very closely!
Chinobi
i wonder if it could be can welded like what is done with meteorite? might make for something a little more visually interesting to have a cross section showing part of a twisted cable surrounded by random flecks and slashes from the stainless chips (cuttings from machinery?) rather than just a homogenized mystery alloy. but thats just the direction i would be more inclined to go in :) hope it works either way! ThomasPowers
Considering that I saw a knife welded up out of lathe swarf (can of course), you can probably do a scrapmascus that way.
Chinobi
see, it even has a fun name :)
Frosty
Just bear in mind the SS has enough chrome in it to be a real factor in the weld, you'll need something for a flux to break down the chrome oxide. Other wise why xxxx not. Take notes, pics and don't give up. Frosty The Lucky.
WmHorus
I am at a waiting point now, still need to get the forge finished first and dont have the cash for the refractory yet...
ThomasPowers
See if you can find anything on Scrapmascus and a smith named Billy Merritt who could probably forge weld water and adamantite together...
