broadlad
I have a POS little giant 25 pounder It had no arms or springs so I fabbed some. It doesn't have the "umph" I need. All I do is Damascus and I don't hold my tools sacred so I want to convert it to Air. Has anyone done this? I'd even trade it for an air hammer or decent hydraulic Press. thanks guys. Frosty
Welcome aboard Broadlad, glad to have you. If you'll put your general location in your header all the ifi members within easy visiting distance will know you're there and we'll stop bugging you. A conversion like that is possible, anything CAN be made to work. However, it's something that's probably a lot more work than you'll get out of it. have you contacted Sid at Little Giant? He has info, directions, trouble shooting, etc. info including rebuild DVDs and puts on classes. A trade might be the way to go or sell it and buy an air utility hammer or hydraulic press. LG are really simple and robust machines made to be rebuilt and used. The problem with yours may be something as simple as the wrong size pully on the motor. Just a WAG but things like that catch us with disturbing regularity. Frosty The Lucky.
SJS
If you post some pics of your hammer's repairs we can offer some suggestions to get it working better. Billy Merritt, who I call the King of Junkyard Damascus! has a 25#LG that is tuned to scream and he puts out ton of Damascus a year... Anvilfire.com still sells the Dave Manzer video, about tuning up your LG and getting the most out of it. Sid is also a great resource plus you could order stock parts and see if that fixes all the issues your having...
MLMartin
I have seen a few of them with the crank and arms removed and a air piston attached. The two I saw were pretty poor at best. Slow hitting and wimpy. I am sure it could be done and work well. But it will be more work to redesign and build new parts then to just order the replacement parts for your little giant and rebuilt it to original specks. If you do not want to bother with the little giant I would recommend just selling it and buying a new air hammer. In the south USA I would guess you may get 1000 dollars for a hammer missing major parts. Expect to pay around 5000 to 10000 for a new air hammer. Good luck
