Robert Mayo
I made the head a while ago and finaly finished it. Birdseye maple haft with cast in place pewter bands and mouth piece. The head is forged from wrought iron with an O1 bit. Bob
Don A
Very nice! Is the bowl intergal or attached? What was the wrought in its former life? Did it weld well with the O1? Great work, Don
Robert Mayo
Don the wrought is from old log boom chain from the ottawa river, no the bowl was turned seperately in my drill press. The whole thing comes apart for cleaning here is a pic. Thanks for commenting!
nc_cooter
Thats a sweet package, Robert. Back in the 60's, one of those would have got me in trouble. Cut and burn!

Don A
Robert, the bowl was turned seperately in my drill press Please elaborate on this, if you would. I have studied the drill press/wood lathe rig in Weyger's book, but have yet to try it. Are you doing something similar, or am I over-complicating the process? Robert Mayo
Robert, Please elaborate on this, if you would. I have studied the drill press/wood lathe rig in Weyger's book, but have yet to try it. Are you doing something similar, or am I over-complicating the process? Don Don i predrilled the piece of wrought chain which is about 3/4", then tapped with 1/4 -20 after cleaning the threads i spun it onto a 1/4-20 cariage bolt chucked it in the drill press and worked it to shape with files and emery. When i had it fairly smooth i drilled the threads out of the top 3/4 of the bowl with a 7/16" bit and it was done. I hope this is of some help!
