james gonzalez
Hello good people I just picked up an old wilton square wheel grinder for a song. It has been out in the weather some and the contact wheel serrated tire has loosened from the aluminum wheel. I tried "goop" which, after curing for 24hrs. held for about 2 minutes. I sprayed 3m super 77 on both cleaned abraded surfaces and no go. Any suggestions out there? thanks
Rich Hale
Have you contacted Wilton and see if they have an idea?
ThomasPowers
If you will be using this for knifemaking decide if it's worth trying to do a jury rig fix and maybe *eating* a blade when it gives way; or it it would be better to have it professional re-done or even buy a new one. Yes they are expensive but I could buy a new grinder for the cost of a single ER trip!
Robert Yates
fix it right or you will see the ER very soon , Safety is every thing !
Justin Carnecchia
usaknifemaker has polyurethane wheels for about half the price of rubber wheels. Something like $110 for and 8" wheel. Thomas is right, either have it done right or replace it. Not worth ruining a blade or worse, getting hurt.
HWooldridge
It was probably molded in place and if so, cannot be easily repaired. It's just one of those things that wind up being wear items which must be replaced periodically.
ThomasPowers
I recall that places used to offer recovering a contact wheel that had worn out back when I worked with a swordmaker.
