Sam Salvati Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Scored this Hardinge HSL-59 "simple operation lathe" today: my actual lathe Lathe info on Lathes.co.ukhttp://www.lathes.co.uk/hardinge/page3.html Now to figure out what I can do with it. Quote
HWooldridge Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Nice score, Sam. Those are used primarily for secondary ops on short production runs. Probably takes 5C collets; no tool turret but has a cross-slide for grooves, chamfering, etc. I can't see the back side but appears to have a lever lock for the collets. You can use high speed cutting tools or Micro 100 carbide in the tool holder; probably 1/4" shank. Finding a turret would give you some end work capability for drilling, chamfering, etc. Good luck with it! Quote
Sam Salvati Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 LOL Bruce, only 9" swing :( Thanks Hollis, it does take 5c with a lever lock (which is AWESOME) and I got a good amount of them for it too. The speed cross slide is pretty cool and I look forward to trying it. The tool holder is just a cut off, i think. I think I could easily find or fab up a tool holder for it. Bed's kinda short for a turret, I think if I found an compound cross slide it could get versatile. Quote
teenylittlemetalguy Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 you can get a 3 jaw chuck that fits in a 5C collet holder if you want a little more range out of it. looks like a nice score. Quote
