ole58 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Newbie wondering if anyone can tell about this anvil? Thanks Quote
doc Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I'm not sure what make of anvil you have from the pic alone , but I can tell you that half the hardened steel face is missing. Quote
fluidsteel Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Looks like a Trenton. It's too bad about the missing face. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Yeah, half the hard face is gone but if you already own it just use that half, that's what I did with my first anvil which I still have. I did an awful lot of work on that half and the horn before I got my next anvil and I still somehow liked the horn better than on the next one and then I got my third anvil a 300# Fisher. If you are going to buy that anvil be sure and don't pay a bunch of money for it, I'd say not more than fifty to seventy-five cents a pound. There are some older posts on here if you are really set on putting a new face on that anvil but it will cost almost a much as a new anvil so if that is what you want then buy a new anvil rather than fix this one up but if you are just starting out then learn on this one it will serve you very well if the price is right. ole58 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 How do you replace the missing face? I don't see the older posts. Also, I think I can make out the word Brooklyn on one side. How's the best way to clean it up -steel brush? Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Wire brush on a 4" grinder works well and wear eye protection for sure. And there are 79 page for you to search, have fun reading them! Quote
