Phil F Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Hi all. I'm a furniture and cabinet maker in NC. I had a chance to take a toolmaking class this past August with a Swedish smith. Made a few knives and carving gouges. After the class ended and everybody went home circumstances were such that I was able to stick around and use the shop for several more days. I'm hooked on it now, found a little farriers anvil and a riveters forge, ready to go. I've already seen way too much cool stuff here and over at anvilfire. Phil F Quote
jmccustomknives Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 I envy you. I can't seem to make wood do what I want. Steel on the other hand, we get along. Soon enough you'll be making your own fixtures. Share pics. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Have you read "The Complete Modern Blacksmith"? There is a lot of info in it on making wood carving tools as the author was a sculptor as well as a smith. Quote
Phil F Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Thomas, I do have a copy of Weyger's book. My blacksmithing library is small but growing. I have Alex Bealer's 'The Art of Blacksmithing' and two books by Håvard Berglund. I love books and hammers, so smithing is going to fit right in with my other obsessions. Quote
