Guest
Thank you for sharing. All warriors need to be remembered by those they served with honor.
Frank Turley
I've been associated with Native American (Indian) singing and dancing since 1950. At that time, I was 14 years old and was allowed to dance at a powwow in Oglala, South Dakota. There are many tribes in the U.S. and Canada, and they have various customs regarding warriors, but the Plains tribes in particular, celebrate the men and women with singing and dancing. For example, the Lakota have a 'wounded warrior' dance sometimes called a 'sneakup.' The Omaha and Ponca have a men's warrior society called hethuska. The Kiowa have their Ohoma and black leggin' dance. This has extended from the old days to modern times, where veteran's of the 20th and 21st century wars are celebrated upon their return. The Pawnee have an annual 'homecoming powwow dance' for their veterans. Mothers of veterans have their special 'war mother's songs,' and they wear decorated shawls with regimental insignia in remembrance of their relatives who are serving. The haka that you sent was powerful and struck a chord. Thank you.
