Ed Soule wanted some help with a split cross from 1" square stock. So he and I worked together on it and got it made, with guidance from RT.

Stan and Clara held a raffle of several items that were donated to help with expenses. And the winner is............... :P

Don't remember who all of the winners were. But the tension was wild!! :D
Bigfoot's wife Linda drew the tickets, while Stan's Daughter Susan held the jug.
Everyone had a really GREAT time. Lots of stories (lies) were told and a lot of friendships made and renewed. Thank you Stan and Clara for being such gracious hosts. Can't wait for next year. :D

Ed's finished cross

and more from the mysterious interior decorator

We want to thank each and everyone that attended as it also takes you here to make these fun for all by sharing some of your experience, wisdom, and hot air.

We also deeply thank all for their gracious donations and raffle items!
We tried to conduct a raffle that was fair and an equal opportunity for all and I believe we did.
We know those who won items smiled when their numbers were drawn for each of the prizes.
We wish all could have been taking clones of that cherished Rich Hale knife home!

Just a question- A few pics were posted on the Tuesday night tutorial, including a few of a bottle being cut using a hot ring to make some sort of candle holder.
How is this done? Does anyone have a pic or two of the finished item? I'd love to see it, I need to make a wedding present and that looks like fun.

Yeah, someone last night thought so as well and I did, in fact, already search the threads and have gone through all the blueprints in the section prior to asking here.
I even asked about it a few times during the actual chat, but got no response.
This was a last ditch attempt to find out how to do it before trying it blind.

forge a piece of round bar 5/8" to 1" in diameter into a circle about 5" across (bigger than the bottles you want to cut), leave a long handle on it for convenience, heat the circle in the forge to yellow or so, place the hot circle on the anvil and turn the bottle around inside the circle a few turns (one can hold the handle and turn the bottle at the same time or hold it down somehow). The glass bottle will heat at the line it contacts with the hot circle. Sometimes the bottom of the bottle will break off easy sometimes you need to dip it in water where it will break off. Practice makes perfect.

Stan,

Thank you so much for being so hospitable and opening your shop to us. It was a pleasure meeting all of you, and being picked on. I learned quite a bit, and I was quite impressed by all the fun gadgetry and tooling and jigs Stan had come up with. It's got the wheels turning for me...also that 100#er is real nice to work on, it has made me start troubleshooting my little giant to run better.

Hoping to swing by again sometime soon!

Thanks Stan,

Aaron

We had a lot of fun there too Stan! Sorry I missed you yesterday. I am looking forward to next year and some informal get-togethers between now and then. I am definitely planning to come and fish at Pyramid Park... that looks almost like Paradise to me! Do you want a mess of fish? BTW the food was incredibly GREAT!!!!! Thanks for inviting us!

One of the best thing I accomplished at Stan's was cutting a set of dies for my power hammer. Stan has lots of toys and he put in a lot of time on these dies. I heat treated them at home and forged my first project with the hammer. A fuller/flatter from a big leaf spring. The die work great.

Also while there, I forged my first pattern welded billet. Had some coaching from several of the guys. It was 7 layers of bandsaw blade and pallet strapping cut and folded 3 times for a total of 56 layers. At home I forged it into a cork screw. It wasn't the best looking billet, and I didn't make the best looking cork screw, but it was my first try at pattern welding and am happy with the result.

This afternoon I tried out Stan's demo on bottle cutting and Jeremy's candle holder. The first two bottles failed miserably. The 3rd turned out better but still has a couple of cracks. The actual holder inside the bottle was much easier than cutting the bottle. I don't like wine very much so it may be a while before I can try it again.
