cvmikeray Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I will be traveling in the next week or so and would be interested in seeing some metal working related businesses, schools or suppliers in Eastern PA , New Jersey and Southern New York that I may be able to visit while I am on the road. I am interested in smithy tools, coal suppliers finished items etc. May be interested in a good 100 - 150 lbs Anvil at a good price as well. Can any of you recommend some places to visit while in the area? Quote
doc Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton N J. Check it out at their website at www.petersvalley.org Quote
Frank Turley Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Moravian Historical Society and museums in Nazareth, PA, and the Bethlehem Partnership in Bethlehem. Good hardware to study. Quote
Frank Turley Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 ...and I think you can purchase Mercer's book at the museum, "Ancient Carpenters' Tools," a good survey of early American tools. When Mercer built his tool museum, apparently rebar was not yet understood, so he built this large concrete structure with cotton rags mixed in for binders. As you tour the structure, you can occasionally see rag remnants on the surface of the walls. Quote
cvmikeray Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Thanks - Anyone else got any sites or shops. We are really going up just north of Long Island so I figure stuff on the way and in that immediate area would be great. Quote
