Francis Trez Cole
if you are going to do cob make sure you add some glass bottles to the wall construction for light
Bill in Oregon
Francis, I sketched in windows on my current plan, but bottles are certainly cheaper.
Frosty
I have a suggestion that falls in with Francis' about build bigger than you think you'll need. Build it so it's easy to expand. If you build a shed roof it's really easy to expand off the high side and add the pitch to the second side. It'd easy to double your space and looks good too. Clay floor can be a hassle if you get much rain. Rising ground water can turn it into quicksand and it'll hold moisture to the detriment of your equipment. A crushed stone floor will really make a difference but leave enough room to go up if you run into a deal on pavers. Remember, blacksmiths are natural salvagers, keeping our eyes open for good deals is a must. Frosty The Lucky.
yves
Yeah, but think of all the attic space you have... ;) I store my coal on the first floor and there are more floors to go!

quick60
I think this may meet your description of a nice shop. There are something like six parts to this series. Enjoy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5NzeVPrtMI
jeremy k
Here's a 10ft x 10ft (outside dimension of the 2x10 treated perimeter) floor for a small primative shop. The pic shows outside edges that need some pavers cut to fill in. Just finished the pavers today. Cutting was a little tricky for the anvil, and tried to make it so there wasn't to many small parts of pavers to make the anvil - not perfect, but it'll be fine. jeremy k
I got the main framing done this weekend. The windows will be cut in when I find some used window frames. The walls need some blocking for the board and batten vertical siding. This is by no means a large shop but will be fine for smaller work. I started to figure where things will go and - yes space is disappering really fast, but it's well within needs for what it'll be. The inside hight is 10ft to the bottom of the ridge beam and 9ft-4" square inside for the floor.

MLMartin
That is a good looking shop, the "blue building materials" scattered on the ground gave me a good chuckle. Best of luck to you
