Old South Creations
I bought a Buffalo post drill #611 over the weekend and want to replace the chuck with one to hold modern bits. Just thought I would ask if there are any tricks or secrets to removing the old chuck beofre I tackle it...I don't want to mess anything up. MOblacksmith0530
I had one that had a threaded bolt(square headed set screw) that held the chuck onto the spindle. I turned a piece in my lathe to just fit into the bore of the spindle and used the bolt to hold it in. I put a flat where the bolt would hit the piece I made. The chuck I had had a 1/2-24 thread which was why I had to make the piece. A picture might help if it is different than the one I had. mathis
I have a 1/2 fine thread bolt with a flat ground for the set screw then you can put any chuck on it that takes that thread, buy the way do you want to sell the original chuck??? I'd be interested. Dave
