yesteryearforge
We had a blast at the meeting/demo this saturday Members and guest from several states braved the cold windy conditions to watch the smiths from williamsburg ( Bob Rowe and Carl Hirner ) make tommahawks out of wrought iron with carbon steel inserts. Welcome new members that signed up and as allways it was a pleasure to spend time with all of the members. They did a good job especially with the height differences from my equipment and theirs. ( Im 6' 6" ) and they're not. A little quick work with a chainsaw and we had a blacksmith shim cut from a pallet to make up for any differences in height. Excellent iron in the hat with lots of quality hand forged items ( actually more forged items than not ) and several tailgaters with equipment for those in need to buy at decent prices. Hope to see everyone again in Lexington for the april meeting. Mike Tanner
Jeremiah
Looks like a great time. What size stock were they working with?
primtechsmith
Sorry for the delayed response. Been battling that noro virus this past week. Great way to lose some extra pounds...just real hard on your social life! The wrought iron was bar stock about 3/8"x1 1/4" and the steel inserts were hammered out of 3/8 round tool steel. I will try and get a photo of the material and post it when I get a chance. Peyton Oh here is something cool...First one is Bob Rowe, and the second is Carl Hirner. Both sticking their welds! Awesome! (special thanks to member Jerry Jones for the second photo!!!)
