Recoil Rob Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hello, A friend recently passed away and I am helping his widow divest herself of the mass of stuff he left behind that he amassed over the years here on the NY/CT border. One of the things was a large anvil that is sitting outside on a rock. The guy was a collector of things from old barns so I would say it at least 100-150 years old. The only mark I can find is "051" and that does not correspond to the hundredweight system of marking. It's 36" from tip to tip, 14" high, 13" wide and the base is 13" x 14.5". The widow wants to get rid of it but before I can advertise it I would like some info. It's to heavy for me to get to a scale, I estimate between 2-300lbs. Here are some photos, thanks for any help you can provide as to weight, style, condition. thanks, Rob Quote
bigfootnampa Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 You can weigh it on a bathroom scale. Looks like a Trenton to me and around 250 to 300 pounds. Condition looks pretty good from the pics. I'd say it's worth $400 to $600 possibly more in the right market. Quote
Sask Mark Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 That's a nice Hay Budden. The weight in pounds should be stamped on the side. Quote
Old N Rusty Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I think it is a Hay Budden , not all have a weight stamp on them. $600.00 would be about right too, That rock brought to Baton Rouge would be worth a LOT more than that. Quote
Recoil Rob Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 One of the mebers here came up this morning and bought it for a fair price. It's probably a 400# Hay Budden, at least that's what the dimensions show. Thanks for the help. Quote
Timothy Miller Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I picked it up today it is beautiful anvil. I am very happy to own it. It will replace my 178 Peter Wright as my main shop anvil. It was a pleasure to meet to Rob You were very helpful and fair. Quote
Mark Emig Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Nice anvil Tim- that'll be a pleasure to work on. Quote
Timothy Miller Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Here is the anvil in my shop bolted down to a stump. Its a real loud ringer but I love it. Its a 400 lb Hay Budden. Quote
