Frank Turley
There has probably not been much of a response to the diagram, because nobody wants to play the "devil's advocate." One must realize that the provided informaion is designed for 1/8" or 3/32" thick stock to be bent cold. That is why they give advice about "spring back." If scrolls are made hot on a form, there is no spring back. Furthermore, if the stock is thicker than 1/8", that changes the length of material needed. In my opinion, the scrolls, as drawn, are not very good looking, especially the central portion, in which the negative space is too open. If one is seeking exponential growth from the center, it is not well done in the drawings. I'm talking about Mother Nature's scrolls, such as a snail shell or chambered nautilus shell. I say this realizing that good scrolls may have different radii.
