antigoth24 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I'm working on a new set of five blades that are nice and simple survival tools, seeing as I instruct in primitive survival I wanted to have some to show off in February when I'm helping some boy scouts with their merit badges and trying to not have anyone get lit on fire But I knocked this blade up in a couple hours this morning and the only thing I'm waiting on is for the 550 para-cord to arrive...so until then I just mocked up the placement of the fire steel to see where I have to re-size it and it appears i have to chop off a 1/4 inch at the end to have it fit properly and then I have to figure out what I'm going to do for the sheath. Let me know what you guys think all comments and criticism are welcome (especially since this is a prototype) and as always thanks for looking! Quote
Farmall Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Good looking knife. Are you trying to fit the fire steel inside the handle and then wrap it? Quote
Tim McCoy Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Will having the fire steel inside the 550 cord wraping make accessing it a challenge? Each time you need the steel you have to at least partially unwrap it ... perhaps you could punch a hole in the reverse bend to stick the fire steel into so that it still fits between the bent ends of the handle and leave it just about 1/2" proud of the hole - have it wedged into the hole - just a thought. antigoth24 Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Tim, that's an excellent idea...I'll have to take a look about that because one think I'm thinking of doing is attaching a climbing caribiner to the end bend so that the knife can clip on to backpacks or belt loops etc. So perhaps I could place a small "cannister" that is attached in the paracord wrap that has a lid to be unscrewed to remove the firesteel. Something like a key chain pill case...what do you guys think? Quote
