Here are some carving knifes I forged for me to use and two draw knifes I forged. I did these when i first started forging, and I use them alot to carve spearing decoys which I do all by hand. i thought I would share them with you guys.

I like this one too, as you can see it still needs a good polishing.

This small draw kife works good with one or two hands thats way one handle is bigger then the other.

here is what I do with them.

Something about using the tools you have made -- what satisfaction that must be. Love your decoys! Do you pour lead for weighting down in water? I have a few antique fish decoys and a few made by a fellow near
Manistique but I always wanted to make some of my own. Thanks for including the pictures of tools and results. Used to be a "Yooper"

Yes there are all working decoys, I don't like it when you can see the lead, so I take the time to cover it up.

Its fun to make your tools as you want them and see the results in action.

Give carving a try I started by coping a 100 year old decoy my Grampa gave me.

Do you have more success with decoys that are natural looking or the ones that are "artistic" and brightly colored?
By success, I mean catching or spearing the game fish. All your decoys look great but I especially like the realistic ones such as the perch.
Thanks for all your posted pictures.

The perch is my top decoy right now, but I had fish come in to the red and white shiner and the my frist decoy the firetiger minnow.

P3051178.jpgI finshed all the carvings from last year and I'm starting on a few more. I traded one for a band saw and I'm selling one to a guy in MN. I'm going to make a few more for me and maybe 6 or so to sell for supplies and tools . I also plan on forgeing a few more knifes and maybe try a few more spears now that I've had more time on the anvil.

Welcome aboard Jason, glad to have you. There are few things as satisfying as making and using your own tools and you're making the tools to make the tools to go fishing. Going fishing is way up on the satisfying pursuits list. I'm thinking you're a heck of a guy.

Thanks for showing your work, we love pics here and you're posting eye candy. We love eye candy. Thanks!
