BlissStreet Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 wow. I love it when people combine the inherent beauty of a working tool with a little artistry like the horns. And that you go on to make things of beauty with them is somehow just right. Quote
Don A Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Good work all the way around. Do you use the decoys? Quote
Guest jasonmichalski Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yes I use the decoys and I have to take some pic of the darkhouse spear that I forged. When I do I will post it. here is some more, some done and some not.P1131226 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrP1131168 by jasonmichalski, on Flickr Quote

Har Fisher Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Something about using the tools you have made -- what satisfaction that must be. Love your decoys! Do you pour lead for weighting down in water? I have a few antique fish decoys and a few made by a fellow near Manistique but I always wanted to make some of my own. Thanks for including the pictures of tools and results. Used to be a "Yooper" Quote
Guest jasonmichalski Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Yes there are all working decoys, I don't like it when you can see the lead, so I take the time to cover it up.P3011188 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrP3011174 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrIts fun to make your tools as you want them and see the results in action.P2121259 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrGive carving a try I started by coping a 100 year old decoy my Grampa gave me.P3011189 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrP1131180 by jasonmichalski, on Flickr B) Here is a link to some more of my pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63947613@N08/ Quote
jasonmichalski Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Now they call my posts a guest post great. Quote
Har Fisher Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Do you have more success with decoys that are natural looking or the ones that are "artistic" and brightly colored? By success, I mean catching or spearing the game fish. All your decoys look great but I especially like the realistic ones such as the perch. Thanks for all your posted pictures. Quote
jasonmichalski Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 LOVE that drawknife! LookerThank you that was the first knife I forged. It workes very well. Quote

The perch is my top decoy right now, but I had fish come in to the red and white shiner and the my frist decoy the firetiger minnow.P2161185 by jasonmichalski, on FlickrI finshed all the carvings from last year and I'm starting on a few more. I traded one for a band saw and I'm selling one to a guy in MN. I'm going to make a few more for me and maybe 6 or so to sell for supplies and tools . I also plan on forgeing a few more knifes and maybe try a few more spears now that I've had more time on the anvil. Quote
Frosty Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Welcome aboard Jason, glad to have you. There are few things as satisfying as making and using your own tools and you're making the tools to make the tools to go fishing. Going fishing is way up on the satisfying pursuits list. I'm thinking you're a heck of a guy. Thanks for showing your work, we love pics here and you're posting eye candy. We love eye candy. Thanks! Frosty The Lucky Quote
jasonmichalski Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 The tongs on the right side I made to hold the flat knife blades, and the other I made as a do all for now, but I need to make some more this summer. Quote
