dave-adams Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Hi all, just an introduction, I am an Non destructive testing engineer / tech utilising radiography, ultrasonics, magnetic particle, eddy current & penetrant inspection I was a coded pipe welder and sheet metal worker / plater in the past. I have started collecting blacksmithing gear, starting with a couple of anvils, one conventional one & one very large model that has two horns, the larger one measuring 40" end to end and 6" wide. I intend to build my own forge in the very near future, and will be gleaning information from anyone here who will listen I live in west cumbria in the UK well away it seems from anyone else in the Uk or so it seems. Thomas Dean Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Howdy from East TEXAS!! and welcome to IFI! There are a bunch of good smiths in your area....distance is realtive, takes me 12+hrs of hard driving just to get from my part of the state to the other side! I'm sure there will be sone of your countrymen/women that will chime in soon and get you hooked up with a group. Meanwhile, grab a cup of tea a bisquit and enjoy the site. I have spent the last 39yrs as a coded pipe/pressure vessel welder/fitter. The trades have been good to me. LORD willing, I am planning to retire in the next year! and just do contract welding exotic metals from my shop and persue with earnest my art work with metal. Quote
John B Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Hi Dave, Welcome to the site, there are many smiths in the North of England, and 12 hrs driving would nigh on cover most of the UK, Carlisle to Exeter where the Blacksmiths Guilds Westpoint forge facility is only 6hours driving time away and pretty much Motorway all the way Check us out in the Groups section on this forum, if we can help we will try to. Good luck with your new venture, Quote
