basher Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I ran a tool making class last weekend . ended up being a one on one . we made punched , slitters , hammers and tongs , punching by hand and using the power hammer to speed up some of the grunt work... slitting and punching by hand makes me glad I have a press! here is what we made..... It was a good weekend of hard work! my examples are at the bottom and Nick's at the top. apparently I don't smile for photos! I cleaned up my hammers and here they are Quote
ThomasPowers Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Well it looks like you're ready to say "My Bwain Hurtz"; but with such lovely hammers who would want to? Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Nice looking covey of hammers you got there! Now that is the way to spend the weekend, middle or beginning :P Quote
CurlyGeorge Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Basher, you really have been putting in some time at the forge. Great looking work. Thanks for sharing it with us. :) Quote
Ric Furrer Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I'll take the 45 degree peen one on the right. Ric Quote
jake pogrebinsky Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Beautiful tools. The oxide everywhere but the working surface says, loudly:"By these hammer strokes,I,the user of these tools, have achieved the necessary shape and balance." It's a short, precise thought, purposeful and elegant in it's brevity. Neat beginning of a radius in that ball peen,raising-tool-like,with lengh, there comes the radiusosity. Very lucky,to catch the mentor on one on one situation, and really dig cooperating with a fellow smith/creature... Fantastic,Owen, very glad for the both of youse, must've been good times, respect. Quote
Greenbeast Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I'll take the 45 degree peen one on the right. Ric It was my bright idea to make the double diagonals, i figured if you're gonna make a hammer might as well be one that doesn't show up too often Turned out to be tricky but as it was 1-to-1 we had the time to do them I had a great time and learnt important skills Quote
Whirly Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Great looking tools Basher! I too would enjoy a weekend being tutored in making these. Bit much salt water between us unfortunately. Quote
