territorialmillworks Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I was asked to make a Star of David to be given as a gift to a doctor. I of course immediately said yes without thinking about how to do this. Lucky for me there isn't a time frame attached to this job. So any ideas/suggestions/thoughts.....the 120 deg angles would have to be dealt with as well as keeping the sides equal.and I dont know what else..... Just another 'opportunity to stretch my skills LOL THX, Keith Quote
pkrankow Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 A Google image search brings up literally hundreds of images in all mediums. Might be a good place to start. Phil Quote
David Einhorn Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Basically it is two equilateral triangles. You can cut six pieces of steel the same length, then weld them into two triangles, then weld the two triangles together. Quote
SoCal Dave Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Also, you can weave the bars like a basket weave to add variety. Quote
territorialmillworks Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 I thought about fullering both triangles so the stars would be flush with brass pins to connect at each overlap for accent . I suppose I could use that approach to 'weave' the two. Guessing that there's going to be some trial and error..... Quote
jeremy k Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Cut it out of plate and hot chisel/set the lines so it looks like overlaps. Quote
chichi Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I believe the first "Blaclsmith's Journal" video shows how to make a star shape out of a cross section of a 2 or 3 " bar. In the end, the star is carved out of the face of the bar. It looks great and is relatively easy to do. Check it out. Quote
