stuarthesmith
Her birthday is sept. 23. She wants to make jewelry, so I bought this railroad track anvil for her at the flea market. For the lady who has everything.
K. Bryan Morgan
Stewart, that is almost exactly like what Wygers talks about in the Complete Modern Blacksmith. I know she will get many years of good service from it. It should make a terrific bench anvil for her.
tzonoqua
ah, and what woman would NOT want an anvil as a present??? Awesome gift!! For working silver she'll want that face polished though!!! Has she seen it yet, or is it a surprise?
stuarthesmith
i couldn't hold my water, so she has seen it and loves it
CurlyGeorge
Nice looking anvil, Stuart. I tried to talk my wife into letting me get her a 400 pounder to set beside my 250. Told her that she could start making some things with me and she wouldn't have to hit as hard because of the bigger anvil. She didn't buy my story. :(
stuarthesmith
she didn't buy either your story or your anvil, lol!
stuarthesmith
my wife and I have matching bookcases, and if you look in the first picture, my bookcase is full of blacksmithing books, SHE HAD BETTER NOT BORROW any of my books! ThomasPowers
I very carefully chose a wife who had a different craft that she is passionate about. So she understands how one could "need" more than one of a tool; but never wants to use mine hammers, tongs or anvils as her craft passion is *spinning*. Drewed
my wife and I have matching bookcases, and if you look in the first picture, my bookcase is full of blacksmithing books, SHE HAD BETTER NOT BORROW any of my books! I spy my favorite - Ted Tucker's "Practical Projects!" I love the way he writes. See branding irons for an example...
David Einhorn
Very nice gift Stewart! I am sure that she will enjoy using it. I am fortunate that my wife has her own anvil. Her family purchased it new.... in 1837.

Sask Mark
My wife's anvil is a 135 pound Soderfors. She doesn't has any intent of ever using it. I 'gave' it to her to justify my buying more anvils. It makes my collection seem smaller to her when they don't all belong to me. That's the same reason my 7 year old claims the 450 pound Peter Wright and my 5 year old claims the 350 pound Fisher sawyers pattern. tzonoqua
Now, that is probably the prettiest Anvil I've ever seen!!! That's it, I'm going to have to go out and get some paint and do mine too!!
eric sprado
Funny: I saw Ted Tuckers book on your shelf too!! It was my first book many years ago and I still thumb through it to get ideas for projects. Eric S.
philip in china
I wanted to get a 250Kg Brooks for my wife. The plan failed as they wouldn't do the exchange.
