Ferrous Beuler Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Whaddya say we all band together and resurrect this old ghost town. We could have it up and running again in no time,LOL!http://stuofdoom.com...tag=adirondacks Also, don't miss "Hopewell Furnace" elsewhere on that site. :) Quote
teenylittlemetalguy Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 sign me up! That would be a neat thing to see up and running again. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Lovely place; would make a great smith's village! Very restful on the eyes after all the desert around here. That smelter should have the remains of a blowing engine somewhere around it and maybe even the charging arch. One I've seen in the Hanging Rock region along the Ohio River still had it's charging arch semi intact---we did a tour of a bunch of them during the IronMaster's Conference at Athens OH that time) BTW Iron smelting is not the same thing as iron mongering (they seem to have gotten it wrong with iron mining too, no sign of a mine in those pictures!) Wesley Chambers Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahawus,_New_York some work was being done to the furnace but they talk like the rest has been removed for brush clearing. Quote
Jason @ MacTalis Ironworks Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Looks like a firm called OSI owns the area.... might get ahold of them and perhaps broach the subject. If we could find some experts with the stuff, maybe we could get it all going again and make it the IFI Clubhouse... Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Glad to see that someone decorated the soldiers grave with a flag. Quote
njanvilman Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 It looks like the heavy snows and time have doomed all of those structures, except the furnace tower. Quote
