jtcweb
I like the look of a brick forge and am looking for plans to build one. Can anyone help me out with some general reading on the various types and plans to build one?
Humphry
Google it and take your choice. Beautiful Iron is a good start. Have fun, should be a great project.
David Einhorn
They are basically a masonry table, with a firepot *just* outside (I recommend sidedraft) a sidedraft chimney. The masonry table is constructed as arches so that there is a hollow center for the firepot to be emptied from the bottom.
ThomasPowers
Moxon's "Mechanics Exercises" has a nice one from 1703.
mtforge
The Blacksmith Ironworker and Farrier by Aldren Watson chapter 10. For the hood I prefer the one from Anvil's Ring March 1979. It's similar to the one in the Blacksmith's Journal.
