Dogsoldat Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Bought a lot and during some landscaping found an odd shaped piece of cast iron. Any ideas what it may be from? Poor pictures. Have a feeling I have seen something like it someplace on the net recently, just not sure. mike Quote
Hayden H Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Looks like some kind of screen for a farm impliment. If it's cast it's either a drain grate, or a sifter of some sort for an impliment. If it's pressed it may be a peice of a light. I've seen an old light with something like that in it, just much smaller thickness Quote
Dogsoldat Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 found out there was a chinese laundry at one point in the house next to my lot. wonder maybe if it had something to do with that? Quote
Bob Menard Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 This looks like something from a wood stove or furnace Quote
Iron paws Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 what you have is a floor grate out of a coal / wood furnace, thoses things were built thick to stand the heat. Quote
Francis Trez Cole Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 looks like the thing you put at the bottom of a drain spout for the rain gutter to slow the water down by creating turbulence Quote
RLS-ia Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 It is a grate out of a farm steam engine, looks like it was for coal, know this has been up for a while but,......... Quote
Dogsoldat Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Thanks. Wonder if it came from a local mine, Certainly enough of them around. Found part of a riveted chimney next to a deep trench that led to a shaft when buddies and I were out riding our bikes one time. There was a small pad for some sort of power plant and a 45 gal drum with a handle like a pail on it. I should go for a ride and get a few pics and go up the other side of the mountain from the open pit where the blacksmith cabin was. Really need to check it out again now that I kinda know what I am looking at. Had a buddy over watching me make something the other day Swede, he was wearing sandals :) every now and again it was the hop skip and dance away. I know better than to throw heavy stuff around with my little piggies poking out. always seem to get them if I do. Quote
