Hi Everyone,
I have had an enquirey about forging a batch of curtain poles and I was wondering what kind of finish/protection would be suitable?
Thanks

Wayne,
My 2.5 cents worth is to go with the hot wax and then rub them down while the wax is still soft. That way it doesn't look waxy and still has the protective coating.

Hi Wayne,
At the risk of sounding 'comercial' I have found that powdercoating is the best long term finnish if you are selling the product. If you powdercoat both the rail and rings they 'slip' well, we found that wax tends to 'bind' over time, if it is for personal use then you just rewax , but once sold? (happy customers come back and/or send others) :D

I did some for my wife a couple years ago. Used a wax/linseed/turpentine mixture, melted together and applied at a black heat.

It has held up good and still looks nice.

Thanks for the input folks, the poles are to go into an old house and they are all different.
Looking at the options I am tempted to go with the laquer finish but I will run the options by the customer to see what they prefer.
