MrJosiah111 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Hi, I have recently started blacksmithing with a friend of mine, and we want to use coal for fuel. Charcoal is too expensive, and we want to be as traditional as possible. Does anybody know any coal distributors in central Alberta? I've heard from farmers in the area that use it for heat that it goes for about $45/ton, but not sure where to get it. A smaller supplier would be preferable, as in being able to go and buy a few 1/2 ton truck loads. I am located about 1 1/2 hours north of Calgary and 45 min east of Olds, so someone fairly local would be optimal. Thanks Quote
Glenn Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 There is a couple of threads already posted on this topic with contacts for people selling coal. Use the search engine to locate the thread. Quote
Sask Mark Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 I have heard there is bulk metallurgical coal available in the Elkford mine area. Quote
MikePierich Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Holy moly...depending on the grade you could make a mint in some areas. The house coal we get is well over $200/ton now delivered. Quote

ThorsHammer82 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 the heating coal isn't good for smithing, but the supplier probably either has a stock of smithing coal, or knows where to get it. Quote
