thecelticforge
I need wire rope, at least one inch in diameter and with a bright finish. Here is the catch, I only need 12 feet.
ThomasPowers
Ahh do you think letting us know WHERE you are would be a good first step to help his tell you where a local supply is? Does it matter if it's high carbon steel or not? (or if it's suitable for forge welding?) Otherwise look under wire rope in the Thomas catalog
Frosty
Another possibility I'd check, maybe first is the local contractor who operates or works on dozers. Dozer winch cable often gets replaced because it lives a HARD life. A crane company is a possiblity but 1" might be on the large size unless they do serious lifting. Of course either of those suggestions is FAR better than letting us know where you live. Seriously, think about it, someone living close with a couple hundred feet of said cable laying around just might be happy to give some away just to get shut of the clutter. Frosty the Lucky. thecelticforge
Where I live is on my profile and thanks, I shall check the crane operators and any other pulley peoples I can ponder.
LDW
I get cable from a local company that sells cable. I give them a knife every once in a while and they give me all I need. I got Kin folk outside of Cleveland GA, across from Jenny's Creek camp ground.
ThomasPowers
So we should have to go and check everybody's profile every time we write an answer to a question like this? I thought you were asking *us* for help? If so it's a good idea to make it as easy as possible on the folks you are asking to spend their time on *you*. thecelticforge
Thanks for the contacts! Beth, I am making a dogwood tree. The final height should be between 7 and 8 feet tall root to bough; 3 feet wide branch to twig. I think I can pull it off and have it rigid enough to do its job on half of the gate. Sask Mark
You can also check with elevator supply companies (like Kone, Thyssen-Krupp etc.) to see if they have any cutoffs around their local service shops.
