SGropp
The wrap round guides on the old style hammers is reputed to be a better and more durable design. This was told to me by Sid at Little Giant. I think the old style hammers were also heavier built and slightly taller. The center mounted clutch also seems a more balanced design. I imagine that they were originally built like that for running off of line shafts and do need some modification for mounting their own electric motor. Both my 1910 25# and 1922 100# LG are old style and have proven to be very good hammers. I've never seen an old style LG bigger than 100#
Fe-Wood
I've got a 1929 year 100 pounder and its turning out to be a good hammer. I've had to completely go through it. It was a basket case when I bought it. I thnik mine is a transtional style. Wrap around guide and t 2 piece base. meaning it has a sow block. I agree about the centerd drive pully- considering the tention needed on it from the drive belts.

My advice is buy both and let us know which is the better power hammer. Seriously, it's not like a guy can have too many power hammers. Frosty the Lucky.
