I don't know whether it would look better polished or not, but the guard contrasts so sharply with the blade because of the difference in levels of polish that I think it detracts somewhat from the overall appearance. Is that an actual style, or did you take artistic license? Either way, it's quite nice. Good work:) (I love all things sharp shiny and pointy).
