Ain't technology cool!

Recommended Posts

My wife thinks it is just a little odd that I embrace technology in my day job but prefer to do woodworking and blacksmithing 19th century style as a hobby. I guess the one balances out the other. Anyway I continue to be amazed at what this little box can do. Well, gotta get back to work. Bart

I'm with you Grant, I LIKE technology and am not too picky about the tech level. For instance; were some nefarious rapscallions coming up our driveway to do a mischief I'd be just as happy with an ancient deterent like oh say a trebouche and burning pitch ammo (okay, happier!) as I would be with my modern autoload firearms and dogs.

On the other hand all and I MEAN A-L-L I want my cell phone to do is let me talk to people and ring if someone wants to talk to me. don't text me unless you really love the bounce message.

I'm with you Frosty thats all I want my cell phone to do too.

Modern technology is a wonderful thing, until it stops working. Then its back to sticks and stones. I mean what did we do as kids and only had 3 channels and a big TV was 19" and only in black and white. If you wanted to make a phone call you waited until you got home or found a pay phone. We had no internet and man had just started into space. Were we so deprived? Or is modern society so spoiled?

Hey Frosty, Found the answer to text. Stopped at phone store one day guy asked "what can I do for ya" I replied
can you turn off the text feature? Answer was sure take about 2 min. Both momma and I broke records getting our phones out.

I think new technology is great, especially if it helps you work more efficiently, saves lives or enables new possibilities. I think the problem nowdays is that many people rely too heavily on their technology. I know of a few people who go bonkers if their internet goes down for more than a day. There is a balance to find between new modern technology and the old reliable technology we take for granted.

Technology would maybe be ok if they took the time to perfect it before they released it.

It is one of the things I miss the least about working, dealing with the factory trying to figure out why their latest and greatest junk wasn't working, we constantly got responses like "I don't know, we did't have the time to test that" or "wow! never saw that before" or "huh, I don't know, we'll have to get back to you on that one".
We were on first name basis with the factory engineer's and had them on speed dial in our cell phones. I don't miss that stuff at all.

I'm not bashing the engineer's or anyone who may be one, it's normally not their fault, they are working with what they are given, unfortunately it's just the way big corporations are these days.
